Re: My Volvo 850 T5 !
IT LIVES !!!!!!!!!!!!
The T5 is now back in action, new engine sounds perfect and the exhaust note is pure SEX!!!, gave me goose bumps the second i turned the key id forgot how amazingly sweet the 2.5" decatted zort sounds on the 5 cylinder lump
Only issue's today was some sticking lifters in the head which a simple engine flush sorted (thin the engine had been stood for a while), and a horrible noise from the front of the engine which turned out to be a buggered air-con pump which i have electronically disconnected eliminating the issue!
I will be putting the trade plate in first thing in the morning an taking it for a quick spin to make sure everything is okay
All it needs its taxing, MOT'ing and insuring now and i can enjoy 258lb/sf of torque and the amazingly nice engine note heheeee
Plan is to tax it and MOT it this Saturday then get the insurance to start the day i get back fro my holiday
ill post up some pics ater ive taken the final ones tomorrow
thanks#

Re: My Volvo 850 T5 !
Bit of good news the car should be taxed, insured and MOT'd by tomorrow afternoon heheee
also i stopped behind again today to sort a few more things out, first thing was the tyres.....one was on the limit and the other was just buggered but we has two new mid range tyres laying around so ive popped them on ready for the MOT.
And the other things was i tied to get the car tracked today but the nut where seized on the rack ends
Thankfully working for a Volvo specialist we had two new ones on the shelf so ive fitted those two ready for tracking in the morning!!!
Today was the first test drive in the car and i was over the moon to find it drove perfect, no knocks or bangs and the car feels great! eased it onto boost in second a couple of times to feel the power and i wasnt disappointed as the revs climb the turbo comes alive and it pulls very strongly, spinning the wheels in second in the dry without fuss
Only thing im worried about is the economy i put 1 gallon in the tank today to get it round the block and on the short run the trip computer said there was just 5 miles till empty and its averaged 5mpg haha
On a run it should be about 22mpg round town and 30mpg elsewhere so ill have to see what its like.
thanks

Re: My Volvo 850 T5 !
This is what happens with big turbo engines mate, you have to grin and bear it! If its any consolation, I get similar mpg with the s14... I can make a tank of fuel last 350miles, or use the lot of it in less than 100 miles lol

Re: My Volvo 850 T5 !
well guys i had my first run out with four people in the car i drove to torksey and back and we had a steady run to see what kind of mpg it can deliver with the odd full throttle blast to make it realistic
It managed to average 24.5 lol, although it was slowly climbing all the time.....i forgot to reset the trip so it averaged my drive home etc aswell., I have to say though if i put on the live mpg read out then i can get upto 45mpg with my foot still for a while at a set speed, it seemed to be most happy at about 50-60mph in 5th which is only 1800rpm and then it gave a nice constant 43mpg so it aint to bad lol.
the car MASSIVELY impressed me all the night , its so quiet in avery way when your just cruising that it made me sleepy lol, not even the tyres make any noise!, its a dream to drive and the brakes are bloody good!!, it had brand new Volvo discs and pads all round when i got it
And as for the power..........fooookin awsome!, with 4 people it still went like a missile. The huge torque these engines kick out all over the rev range makes it feel like alot of much more powerful cars i drive before and the pull is very strong! no wonder the police used to use these hehee
Only down side to the journey was dangerous and dreaded fuel cut issues!!
The previous owner had crept up the boost at nobles during the summer to around 13-14psi which is fine but he never drove it in colder weather and the ECU isnt happy with the more dense air entering the engine and a few times it cut fuel on me ! i pulled straight over and lowered to the boost right down to about 11psi which on these is perfectly safe ............... i will be getting a chip ordered asap to get things done safely and the water injection will go on after the holiday so ill be happy then
Even thought the boost is now turned down and its lost alot of the torque its still a very quick car!, it showed a BMW 330i a thing or two today on the way home
Thanks
Jason

Re: My Volvo 850 T5 !
good to hear its running ok mate all be it at 11psi
when i had my 855 i found the 56mph was the perfect eco speed all be it mine was only a 2.0 20v and only just srcapped 35mpg but its good to see that the extra power does allow for better mpg, something i have said for years, oh and from my time on volvoforum i learned that the on board trip actually under reads and most people said they were actually getting on average 4mpg more than the trip lol

Re: My Volvo 850 T5 !
Okay ive turned the boost back to stock levels for reliability until the chip in a few weeks or so its now running 8.5psi and its still amazingly good to drive, its stuill really really quick and it has s'#t loads of torque so im a very happy bunny indeed
Plus i no its now running what Volvo intended it to run on there stock map so its a bullet proof as its going to get lol, the T5 is a great great car im loving it more and more each minute i drive it.
ow i took a couple of new pics today -

little update
hello, little update!
ive been trying to get in-touch with a local dealer for RICA without much look so ive decided to get in-touch with BSR who are an equally respected Volvo tuner. Plus we deal with NORDIC through being a Volvo specialists and they happen to be BSR dealers
the BSR chip/flash takes the stock T5 engine upto 290bhp with a panel filter and stock 95RON fuel making it cheaper to run than the RICA chip due to having to run 98RON fuel.
BSR will be getting intouch with me tomorrow about a price and i have another ECU ready to send off to them when i decide its time to go for it!!
Oddly though im enjoying the car massively as it is reeeeeely starting to love this car it awsome!!, and the sound even more so!
This morning i decided to turn the boost up a little because its been set back at wastegate pressure for a bit (8.5psi) but the stock ECU would normally run 9.6psi on the 225 T5 if the control solenoid was plugged in, so i decided to creep it upto 10.5psi which is what Volvo did to make the T5-R using the same ECU, map and turbo etc....
doing this in theory gives around 240bhp on a stock set-up, me and FISHGT went for a good run in it today and it just flys really quick car, and for the first time today i started to push it on the bends to see what the stock T5 chassis with a set of 40mm springs can do and i can honestly say both me and matt were shocked how well it corners!!, it grips really well and feels nothing other than safe behind the wheel, the front end just starts to under-steer when pushing hard but you can feel this happening nicely through the wheel. The Policed choice there cars wisely !!! lol
After playing i stuck it in 5th with the cruise control set at 58mph and managed to average 40mpg over 30miles on the rest of the journey with a little help from a forte fuel flush a few days ago which has given me noticeably better fuel economy!, better once the chip is on too!
thanks

Re: My Volvo 850 T5 !
cheers guys sounds even better in the flesh trust me!, and when you boot it on the move the engine and exhaust sound fooookin awsome!
got my call back to day from Nordic regarding BSR and its 275 plus vat to have my spare ECU shipped to London then off to Sweden "the home of tuned volvos" to be fitted with the stage one 290bhp chip!
the process takes two weeks so im thinking this month might have to be Volvo chipping time
while the ECU is being chipped it'll give me time and motivation to get the water methanol injection fitted
thanks
