Re: cinquecento abarth *TURBO* 1.2 turbo
its only a 1242 8v spi with a turbo bolted to it so its nothing special really lol i could build one for less than £850 and it would defo be an mpi and have more than 100bhp lol

Re: cinquecento abarth *TURBO* 1.2 turbo
the reason it would be unreliable is because you only spent £850 on the thing!
Do it right, do it once.
"performance, reliability and money. Pick any two of them, you cant have the other"

but not everyone in the world has as much money floating around as you mate, some of us have to do it the cheap way and some times it pays off really well

you just said yourself, you couldn't make it reliable for £850. I fail to see how that "pays off really well".
Some things you can skimp on. Others you cant. Simple as that.

I think that's a comment that can be looked at from a different angle....
For example my car ran over 40,000 miles of everyday town driving and hard weekend driving in all weathers running 96bhp, 116bhp, 125bhp with great reliability. Any time the car broke down was always down to the fact that the car was high mileage so things like coil packs were old and sensors were old etc which you simply cant avoid but look at it like this, the little 1.2 engine, gearbox and even the drive-shafts on my current set up have proven to be reliable over 20,000 miles failing only to the deep electrical issues that the car came with when i bought it 3-4 years ago, all the running issues ive suffered time and time again is down to the ongoing issues i simply never got to the bottom off without replacing the management which was my choice so i lived with the issues sadly..... and it was these issues that lead to the piston slap getting excessive on my last engine due to repeated super rich running causing bore wash, if this hadnt have happened the engine would still be there today
The issues with the electrical problems i have/had i choice to live with in favour of dishing out for management but take away that issue and the car has done incredibly well as a turbocharged Cinq
I must say im chuffed that the little 1200cc engine has coped with over 160bhp for some time without any issues relating to the either the turbo or the setup......the problem lies within the stock engine management (wiring is my guess) and that is what i like to call bad luck in my case i bought into a problem car lol......
thanks
Jason

all i said was it could be done for less than £850, i didn't say it would last very long or that it would be reliable, look at you and jay and how much you have had to spend to get them reliable and you are both still fighting it, i have seen the light and N/A can be done for alot less and still get 100bhpish and uber reliable

Re: cinquecento abarth *TURBO* 1.2 turbo
I'm not arguing with you about that. Of course n/a is cheaper, its the nature of the game, and I agree, a 16v lump running 100bhp in a cinq will be good fun!
But if you asked any of us turbo boys if turboing is worthwhile, I think we'd all say we wouldnt go back. Not a chance! The power delivery is just so much more addictive.
The thing with you cinq boys is that you have weight on your side... puntos weigh much more so you need much more power to make em just as fast
Interestingly enough, the problems that Jay and I have had with our 8vt and 16vts have absolutely nothing to do with the level of power being put through them.
