Model T Ford
Specifications:
Production dates- 1908-1927
Manufactured units- 15,007,033
Engine size- 2884cc
Maximum power- 20bhp at 1,800 rpm
Transmission- 2 speed epicyclic
Top speed- 42mph
0-60 mph time- N/A (took too long )
The four cylinder 2,884cc engine had a detachable cylinder head which was a new idea. It was introduced in October 1908 it carried a hefty price tag of $850. It was the world's first moving production line. Assembly time fell from 12 hours and 28 minutes to just 1 hour and 33 minutes. The Model T changed remarkably little during it's 19-year run although the brass radiator went in 1917 and it's styling was modernized. The cars were lowered in 1923 no doubt as roads improved and then again in 1926 this was the year that also saw the introduction of a choice of colours aside from the original black. Henry Ford also found out that black paint dried faster.
The Model T's were designed in a range of styles from touring, runabout and coupe to two and four door sedans they were also a popular racer.
As the car of choice for everyone the ( Tin Lizzie ) integrated itself into the American psyche like no other car.
