Mad Modifieds Collection - Transit + dumperaxle (picture heavy)
ok im just quoting these straight off my build thread on ADC
no-smoke-no-poke wrote:Heres my latest & greatest
picked this up friday afternoon, had the diff welded before i went to oranmore friday night
(this got bumped up the order of stuff to do ie the lancer & micra, cos its guna be seriously handy with tools & stuff able to drive anywhere... feckin transits would get stuck on a bananna skin... after this it might take a bit more)
anyways
il let the pics do the talking
one perfectly good transit
add one perfectly good axle off a dumper
and weld the s##t outta the diff

Re: Mad Modifieds Collection - Transit + dumperaxle (picture heavy)
second part.....
thats it till i go home thursday and continue the build..... its all for a vintage show tow days after christmas in which i have a feature of mad modifieds.... last summer i built a V8 micra && went tractor pulling.... clutch went in 40 seconds flat
no-smoke-no-poke wrote:
not needed anymore
who needs brakes either
without brakes... things are looking up... brakes were taken out cos they catch the valve on the tyre when we switch the rims to stick out more...
didnt get a pic of the weld... looked rank anyways cos of the gears inside... diff going together again
then fast forward to this afternoons progress cos of the whole galway night out & day out
today... old axle... not needed... suspensions... not needed....
exhaust, was a bit in the way..... out ta f##k
found this earler then... perfect for a crossmember to set up a frame to take the axle
thats it till thursday

started this build thursday night... heres thursday nights info
no-smoke-no-poke wrote:anyways home earlier on... completely gimped fromm lastnight in clonmel so nothing much happened.... but that said
i picked up a 2:1 reduction gearbox off a baler designed to take 150+ pto horsepower.... only problem is its an L gearbox.... so we kinda grumbled for a bit && weighed up the dumper axle again....discovered iit goes in reverse to the diff out of the transit....
now originally anticipated was we had to take out the dieseltank n moove it... now tho since we are swinging the diff to match the L gearbox and now also flicking the diff around to acommodate the reverse drive, the dieseltank can stay put..... wuhoooooo less work ... but it does meen we are going to be riding an extra foot higher again.... really sloped now :S hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
starting back at this in the morning, camera on charge so be expecting a hape a pics around dinnertime...
fittings for the gearbox being made up in the morning so lots of pics of them

the railway tracks
the gearbox
the shim
the other shim
our steel for our new frame (lots more lip-plate too for strength... but this is structure)

then daniel (owly) showed up n took these
anyways back to the transit...
the boxiron on its position
& just a height reference
our chassis.... ahme... a bit reinforced with our railway tracks:rock:
so anyways a while ago the welder started playing up.... now its gimped altogether so picking up a nice tidy inverter welder off a lad at the AGM tonight for the morning... daecent progress imo

no-smoke-no-poke wrote:well... tis done somewhat... a lot of reinforcing to go on yet but.... its driving
we hadta drop the dieseltank at the back cos of the slope, was getting starved of diesel.... simple bit of reinforcing bar bent around n welded to the chassis in place of the strap (back one only) that was in it before.... youll see what i meen anyways
pics pics pics
its not quite as slow as i would have liked but.... itl be grand
