Re: The Mighty Punto 60 run around!
the mighty 60.......thousand hp Punto is getting HID's today! im fed up with not being able to see in the dark haha, so the HID's that where on the cinq can go on the Punto for a few weeks seen as the cinq isn't going anywhere in a hurry unless a magic check for a few grand appears in my pocket and that certainly isn't going to happen
After having the HID conversion on the cinq i cant go back to halogens on the old fashion pattern lenses....the light is just so dull compared to today projector pod halogens and clear lenses. Ill just have to see how the beam pattern is on the Punto headlight lenses because they might be a little distorted unlike on the cinq.
thanks

HID's something i might consider in the future i didn't think it would be long until you would start modifying the punto i think it's in all our blood.

HID (high intensity discharge) or xenon lights are a gass filled bulbs powered by very very high voltage ballasts, they basically are upto 4 times brighter than the usual 55w halogen bulb and give off the recognised white-blue-purple light depending on the brightness off the bulb i.e 3200k or 8000k for example.
They draw only 35w off power and i believe mine are 6000k (one off the brightest road legal), the very dark blue/purple lights you see are actually the least brightest and the very light blue/white are the brightest.
The best part about xenons is the fact that the flood off bright light on the road is white-blue which means your eyes can pick up more detail naturally rather than the yellow light from halogens......once you go HID you cant go back
mine where 150 quid with halogen main beam.
cheers
jason
these are some pics off my first cinq with my HID kit on -

Ow and trust me mate this car isnt getting modified in the sence your thinking i would never seek looks or power or even handling on this car after the cinq.....economy, reliability, cheapest and comfort that's for me
Im actually really liking the Punto, best thing ive done for a long time lol, just good to have the standard "normal" car to get in every morning if you no what i mean lol, im getting around 48mpg aswell on good runs and around 42round town but the only let down as yet is the fact that the heater matrix has decided to let leak so the car makes for an interesting steam bath!
think off the HID's and the ICE as driving comforts rather than mods here cof cof turbo kit cof.........just joking
jason
Re: The Mighty Punto 60 run around!
i know what you mean about having a standard motor with no hassels lol and then the stupid modified eat your face and kill your dog car for weekends lol makes it all that much better

Rolling road results!
well im chuffed!! the Punto made 71.1 bhp and 69lb/sf of torque with a really flat torque curve all the way across....perfect! not bad for what was supposed to be a 60hp car stock. All ive done is remove the air filter but kept the stock air box for good cold air feed and gave it a good service with a fuel flush, new lambda and good oil etc plus i believe this is a low mileage engine to.
result!

result!

Re: The Mighty Punto 60 run around!
Okay...since the trip to the rolling road ive been tempted to get the Punto timed on the HTC (cant use the greddy as it in the cinq!) and seen as matts was done on the HTC it seemed a good comparison being another 60!
Now sadly i haven't got the fancy printout like matt did because i never manged to get a quater mile done before someone pulled out on me (on my private road ) but i did get some times to go by for now!
the Mighty 71.1bhp Punto managed a 60ft time of 2.29 seconds @ 26.45mph compared to matts 2.94 @ 24.67mph
And it managed to knock up 0-60 in 11.57 seconds (matts did 12.08 seconds)
So im pretty happy with that and it clearly shows the extra power at work!, we need to gets matts up and running better so we can see if it can get a good power figure and beat his old times

Re: The Mighty Punto 60 run around!

Re: The Mighty Punto 60 run around!
Okay been doing abit of tinkering that today that makes me want ot see the GT back on the rollers
James and Ryan will will know ive had a miss fire and the occasional pop from the Punto since i got the car and i always had a feeling one of the coil packs was on its way but typically it didn't get changed (couldn't be bothered haha) but while on the butter-tubs pass the coil-pack pretty much failed so it got changed while on the road, but since then the slight miss-fire has come back so today i thought id check the plugs (which had supposed to have been changed when i got the car) only to find they were totally and utterly knackered!!!! big time!!! they looked to have been in for many years and no suprise they were magnetti marrelli so suspicions tell me they were from new! the gaps on the plugs were huuuuge...tut
I then found a H/T lead broken and the other coilpack was showing signs of sut build up
Surprised it ran at all let alone do 71bhp a few weeks go so anyway ive changed both coil-packs, and i had a spare set of Magnacor h/t leads and bosh super 4 plugs so theyve gone in and bingo it runs sweeeet as a nut and bottem end torque is loads better just intersted to see if its broke the 70lb/sf mark now!
Thanks
Jason

Re: The Mighty Punto 60 run around!
haha i think you have no need to worry
I must confess though this engine has the 866 cam in there.....seems a fair few of these 60 engines came with one as stock for some reason (knowing fiat its because they had a few spare haha) found this out when trying to seal the leaking gasket till i get a new one

Re: The Mighty Punto 60 run around!
the later punto 60 was fitted with them because fiat realised they were much better and still branded it a P60 lol i should have thought about that as that would account for most of the gain over a P60 you have
