The Passat - depressing times
Right ive got rid of my old thread and put up a proper build as such, bit better and shows the progress from start to how it is now, and i can just add anymore later on like normal, enjoy
Ok so heres how i got the car just over a year ago in february 2009, id already been put back a couple of days due to snow and ice...
First mods were very minor ones, Black grille badge ooooo and also i nicked the smoked side repeaters from my seat ibiza before i sold it
Second mod was an uprated panel filter forge 007p diverter valve and a remap in a little bundle done a JBS Autodesigns in chesterfield, no pics but jesus i remember the firt time i properly poot the foot down afterwards, ive driven much quicker motors where i used to work but for my own car its not bad
It ran pretty standard looking for a while until a set of rims came up, no money of course so the missus decides she'd get them me as an early birthday present because she had no clue what to get me, happy with that decision heres the result
Quickly followed by the removal of the passat and 1.8t badges and painted rear vw badge
Again no visual mods for a while but bought a THS De-Cat Pipe and what a pain this was to fit, anyway i persevered and was more than happy with the result, improvement in turbo spool up and top end pull
Shortly after i decided to put in a boost gauge and went with one that i hoped would look oem once fitted and was surprised that it wasnt far out at all, just a little brighter (looks better for real than the pic)
Somewhere along the lines i got a de-badged grille and also the first time i took the plunge to buy HID's, never looked back theyre brilliant. I think somwhere in this space of time i got a hold of vagcom and activated the alarm beeps, anti-hijack, and german alarm siren. Also followed a how to and managed to activate remote windows with another program called VDC-Pro
Once again i didnt really do much for a while except take the rear badge off as a pressure washer stripped the paint off typical but hey im not paint expert, put some lens repair tape on the rear lights for the all red look and also just keeping it clean really.
Then after a run of extra curricular work led to a small(ish) amount money for the biggest look improvement ive done imo, The coilys. Wasnt too bad a job other than the notorious pinch bolts (well one in my case) but the result was brilliant.
After umming and ahhing over wether to buy some flyeyes (headlight tint) my mate went for it but decided we should try it on mine first as my headlights were an easier shape haha. Also as i split my indicators to clean them the silver paint decided it wanted a new home on my cloth and not my indicators, so i thought bugger it and matt blacked them and hoped they would still light up ok (turns out the lens shape directs the light mainly so i was lucky) after unsuccessfully sealing them back up i gaffer taped them together proper bodge, heres the total result of all that...
After pestering a member on UKP a couple of times about his rear lights he informed me of some on ebay, lucky me i won the buggers aswell, heres them on.
Some time after (i think) came up a set of half leathers... hmm blue inserts i pondered, oh hes in sheffield f*ck it so i went down for them, anyway the fronts were in a day later but the real fight was the rears, being from a v6 syncro saloon, my fwd estate has little in common when it comes to the back seats, anyway after a lot of spoge chopping and wrestling theyre in (sort of)
Again i dont think much happened for a while until i got a set up for 312mm front brakes (no pics)
And again after until came my 21st birthday when the present of some plates were on the cards (it was supposed to have been the 18th but that "present" ended up being a gearbox on my first car..mk3 golf lmao)
The next thing was a custom exhaust done by hawleys on sharrowvale rd, i took this decision as my standard exhaust had finally had enough of the speedbumps and a little hole emerged not long before the mot was due, i went for 2 1/4" from my decat to the back, no proper pics of the "zorst" itself but here it was on the ramps for the first time during me owning it (i do my own work if you hadnt guessed already lol)
You'll be pleased to hear that even with the de-cat it passed its MOT with flying colours *cough*saab9-3emissions*cough*
Anyway i was a little stuck for what to do and had a small amount of money (unusual for me i know)
Heres where the trouble began, i decided i wanted my R32s re-furbing and spraying anthracite/gunmetal grey to tie in with everything else, as it happened a member on another forum had recently advertised he can do this sort of thing so after a chat with the guy named Lee (w*nker... i'll elaborate in a mo) and also arranging to borrow a set of 16" rims (cos of the 312mm brakes) my rims were off and also £30 up front were with the wan... i mean member (f*ckin stupid of when when i think about it, anyway lie after lie after lie i could go on... it turns out my rims had "dissappeared" or more likely sold on, after numerous visits and catching this guy when he least expected me to turn up i ended up with an amount of compensation, a small price for the stress, and how bad i felt having someone elses rims on that trusted me not to have them long
during all this my car looked like this, not bad i thought for standard rims...
Anyway very shortly after recieving the bit of money i stumbled across some of my favourite vag rims on ebay and the price... just enough to take me into the red, but thought f it, so glad now as it has pretty much worked out in my favour, here they are on...
since then a few things draining cash here and there and also not knowing what to do means i didnt do much, untill i decided to go for a bit of colour coding lol
then bit the bullet and got some spacers for the rear (i now want some for the front when funds allow)
before
after
and finally the last modification up to now (May 2010) some headlights, i was originally gonna get depo projectors and tint them but these were a smidge over half price of a new set of lights so not to be passed up really, after a night splitting them to repair broken adjusters a set of black fk halos were on (with original indys as i had another idea)
the idea was to put a sidelight in my indicators and disconnect the halos for something different
i dont have any lit up pics but im happy how they look
sorry for the lecture
Here it is in all its glory (so far hahah)

This is an awesome car very good example or should i say got to be one of the cleanest and best modded Passat's iv'e ever seen and the wheel spacers look great for the extra wide stance.

Re: The Passat - depressing times

just the one mate lmao, ive gotta re-do it as i want it sat a bit further in but ive got another drivers side lover grille for free, if i get that one right and where i want it i will get the other side put in... then think about wiring them in, but i wanna use the oem vw switch so god knows how much they will be, and then have a play with wiring them up using the factory fuse box so its as if they were meant to be there like on facelift model to mine, also at least the fogs are still vw too (sad me i know), theyre from a mk5 golf gttdi
i havent got a pic but ive put the standard grille back on with a vinyl wrapped badge, and finally after 4 months of messing about through a group buy got uk legal pressed ally plates

Re: The Passat - depressing times
I changed a swith on a Seat Ibiza they are HUGH when u get them out and it cost about £75 quid for that.
Re: The Passat - depressing times
was it the round one like on a lot of vag motors, where you push in the switch and turn it as if to put the sidelights on, and pull out? i doubt i'll use a brand spanker... i never pay top price for anything lol

Re: The Passat - depressing times
it was a turn and pull out one and you got the dash light control and headlight adjusters on the same part
Re: The Passat - depressing times
nah them bits are seperate on mine, but i bet its still pricey, i think a scrappy is in order, theres plenty o cars with them fitted not yet though as i need to save money for once, ive barely got over having 20p in the bank
