407 replacment due for 2011

The 508 will be up against some very talented rivals when it arrives, including the Ford Mondeo, Citroen C5 and Vauxhall Insignia. Peugeot will also be hoping to steal sales from the more prestigious Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series, too.

As well as the new styling, the concept car also incorporates a diesel/electric hybrid engine. A 163bhp 2-litre diesel engine powers the front wheels, while a 37bhp electric motor drives the rear, making a total of 200bhp.

The really neat trick is that at low speeds the 5 by Peugeot is powered by electric only, meaning zero-emissions town driving. Average fuel consumption in mixed driving conditions is stated as 74.3 mpg, with CO2 emissions of just 99 g/km.

The car will officially be unveiled at the Geneva motor show on March 2, when we’ll bring you further details and pictures.

Looks really smart so hopefully when it comes out in 2011 it will do quite well because i don't think they have been a good seller in previous years with the majority of people buying things such as Ford's.

its gonna have a hard time against the ford and the audi,,,,,everone ive spoken to that has drove the new mondeo says it sensational,,,,,,but then citreon did very well in making the C8 which is said to drive extremly well.

The Peugeot 5 concept will be shown at next month's Geneva International Motor show and will be the new 508 hence the 5 which replaces their 407 big family car and goes on sale next year. It is the new face of Peugeot with much sleeker headlights and a more streamlined chrome grille. The spectacular LED headlights feature illuminated surrounds for extra effect. Under the bonnet, the 508 will get the first Peugeot diesel/electric hybrid engine that will slash CO2 to just 99g/km or zero in electric mode.
And expect prices to match the Ford Mondeo and start at around £19.000.
