Re: Mondeo ST-tdci 2.2
Mk3 Mondeo still looks well. Amongst a couple of others, a 2.0TDCI Mondeo Mk3 is what I had been looking to buy for a few months before the Impreza came along (the Mondeo was my prefered choice at the time and a Scooby never even crossed my mind). I was trying to get a 6-speed box though, and one that hadn't been to the moon and back.
Its a nice colour that one. They drive well and are very well designed and well equipped inside. You get a lot for your money with Fords, which is why I wanted one.

Re: Mondeo ST-tdci 2.2
youd like this one paul, goes like a a 215bhp impreza! with 60mpg haha, its my dads car, got to be one of the best handling front drive fords ive ever drove aswell as the best diesel ive drove too.
you can pik one up with 60k for about 8500 and with a 325 quid remap youve got 345lb/sf of torque!!

WingSpeed developments Decat finaly bought!!!
Hello everyone!
After doing some research into tuning the 2.2 TDCI engine i have found that one off the most popular choices for freeing up power and torque is to replace the very badly designed cat with a decat pipe, there are a few different types about some good some bad but the daddy is the WINGSPEED from wingspeed developments. The welds are perfect and the design is tried and tested using 304 poilshed stainless with mandral bends and a graduated drop too 2.5" from the turbo elbow for best flow.
The Decat can give enough extra flow to reach the 200bhp mark and many have found that by replacing the back box with one off Wingspeeds exhausts its given them 22bhp combined with the decat!
Jason is going to fit it soon!
here are the pics -

Re: Mondeo ST-tdci 2.2
Ow and also ive bought a WingSpeed "EGR blanking plate" as jason tells me its a very good modification to do on modern diesel especialy performance ones as it stop the really thick build up off carbon sludge in the boost pipes and eltiminates gasses leaking into the system at the wrong time killing power off, so this may well give an increase in power too as the EGR valve is showing signs off leaking in too much on start up etc.
thanks

Re: Mondeo ST-tdci 2.2
Im looking forwards to seeing what its like with the decat fitted, alot of people get the sound of the variable vanes in action and the turbo wistling up!
Ill be fitting it this week for dad so next is to get him on with a powerflow decat-back exhaust to match

Decat and blanking plate fitted!!!
Hello
ive had the Wingspeed decat fitted today at hawleys next door to jasons work, while i was there jason fitted me the EGR blanking plate which turned out to be for the Euro 4 mondeo with electronic EGR control. This meant my blanking plate has a very small hole in it to allow 30% off the exhaust gasses to pass through to the inlet manifold to keep the managment light off! Becuase mine is a Euro 3 mine is fitted with a vacume controlled valve and therefore can be blanked off altogether eliminating exhaust gasses passing into the inlet, so i have to get the hole welded up seen as i bought the wrong plate.
However the Decat is worth every penny and it has made a big improvment at the higher revs where diesels need it most, aswell as giving off some awsome sounds from the exhaust!

Re: Mondeo ST-tdci 2.2
Awsome sound from the rear when you rev it from idle, you get a dump valve pshhhh followed by the sound off the veins changing angle inside the turbo.......nice
And these decats free up some good power from the ST-tdci engine because they where crap to start with. A combination off the decat and an exhaust can give 20bhp!!

Re: Mondeo ST-tdci 2.2
Dad has decided he may well go for the following new setup see HERE for more info, should be a seriously quick car with the torque this setup kicks out......more torque than the new jamsport 400bhp RS focus kit!!
This car already has a map, decat, and Pipercross filter aswell as an egr blanking plate, the above kit is all about the new huuuuge airtec intercooler combined with a fettled map and in dads case the addition off a free flow exhaust to go with the decat it can be made to give 220bhp/460lb/sf. but the setup is aimed at smooth delivery so they set it at 208bhp and 441lb/sf of torque!!!! power!!!

me too! i really dont no what having over 100lb/sf more torque is going to feel like, ive never drove a car with as much torque as it has now!
he is ordering the intercooler after the holiday so ill be fitting it then and then he has to decide if he wants next door to build him a new decat-back exhausts system before the map gets fettled with again.
im sure youll get to go in it mate.
thanks

Airtec Intercooler for rolling road day
Hello
Just purchased this ready for the trip to the Dyno at Noble's -
test have shown good improvement in the torque (31.5lb/sf on a standard ST-tdci engine). Jason will be fitting it when it gets here!

Re: Mondeo ST-tdci 2.2
Should be a good test this, the Celtictuning remaps alone qoute 191bhp and 331lb/sf of torque and on top off that dads has the Decat pipe/Pipercross pannel filter and EGR blanking plate combined with the new intercooler.
Unfortuanly the stock turbo and injectors mean peak power is restricted to a max off around 200bhp but torque can be very high so lets see what it can do
Just got to get the bloody thing fitted for him now, lets hope its a stright forward job!
thanks

Its easy mate, under tray off and top covers.....remove two torx bits and boost pipes, drop old cooler out and slide new one in and bolt up bingo lol. Bumper can stay on, headlights aswell.
looking forward to doing it too, im that used to working on the cinq with after market stuff it will make a break to work with some room.
thanks

Intercooler fitted
hello, i fitted the intercooler for dad this weekend and was surprised how easy it was to fit, the headlights on these come out with one multiplug and two metal strips to release the lights and the grill comes out easy too making access to the cooler really easy!, the new cooler slots in from underneath and secures easy with some nice shiny polished stainless brackets
On the road the difference can be felt once we had done a few miles. a steep uphill third gear blast from just 25mph to 60mph took around 5.5-6 seconds (the same as a 136bhp V50 2.0d ON THE FLAT!) and on the flat third gear felt really strong right through the revs with tons off pull dad hasnt really driven it mush though and has yet to feel any real increase for sure but im sure he will be impressed once its been on a run! I think what this car needs now is an exhaust system and another custom map and this will unleash the power Dave @ street performance saw on one off these which was 208bhp with 440lb/sf off torque!! street performance have also said they have developed a map that will increase the power to 220bhp with 460lb/sf of torque but the question off turbo life has to be questioned around that mark.
here is the cooler vs the old one!!
fitted to the car from above
thanks
