Hello Dezy and welcome to the forum Smile and thanks for the comments Wink

Doesn't matter what you drive here, i look forward to seeing the pictures of your SXI bounce

the Megane 225 is a great car!! fast, handle really well and they tune very well. There isnt much tuning info on the 225 as yet on here but i can change that Smile

In the same price bracket you could also consider the Focus ST which again is a great car

thanks

welcome to the forum

be careful if you go for a megane 225, they are riddled with electrical faults, nothing serious its mainly just little annoying things like warning lights coming on when there is nothing wrong oh and the front indecators have a nasty habbit of not making contact properly and its a sod to get to them (in through the wheel arch)

i'm with jay and consider a focus ST, are there any astra VXR's in that range or are they still too pricey, also consider golfs, ibeza, fabia VrS, A3/S3's, civic and my personal favorite the punto HGT

look forward to seeing the SXI and what ever future plans you have

im afraid Chris i have to say from working on these things all new cars are as bad as each other, Renault don't seem to be any worse than Volvo, Ford, Vauxhall these days.....you name it ive seen them all go down the same electrical fault route.

these days buy what you like and ignore the common faults list trust me Wink

thanks

Thanks for the replys.Ive also heard about the electrical faults on the 225.My first thoughts when I decided to get a new motor was the Type R, but really fancy a turbo, but will still consider it.

I drove a type R a few months back and to be totally truthful it was good....but i just missed the torque from the turbo and it didnt feel as fast as the Focus ST on the road.
Honda is the only one youll be able to own with the least issues. The Focus suffers, the VXR Astra suffers.........its modern electrical systems built outside the manufacturers Sad

Only today i had to change an alternator, battery and charging loom on a Volvo V50 2.0D (Ford Focus) due to cheap alternators going and taking wiring and batterys with them.....£1000 please

thanks

Dezy.......considered a diesel???

they really are today's best combination of power torque and economy and they mostly fall under the petrol equivalent when it comes to insurance.

for 5k you could buy and map the following great sporty diesel cars....

Golf TDI 130, GT TDI 150 (pop choice with great engines)

Vauxhall Astra/Vectra SRI CDTI 150 (produce great figures when mapped)

Mondeo ST-tdci 2.2 (looks and great chassis with a powerful engine)

Ibiza TDI 130 (take a look at Mitches......need say no more Smile )

Fabia VRS (fast tunable)

the list goes on, a well sorted hatch diesel running approx 180bhp will normally match a 220bhp petrol of the same weight with the added bonus of 45-60mpg Smile Smile

something to think about mate Wink

thanks

i'm with jay unfortinatly, a well sorted deisel will kill the equivelent petrol any day, i remember reading an artical in a mag once, they had 2 siroccos one a 250ish bhp petrol a a 190ish bhp deisel and the deisel was dancing all over the backend of the petrol and was also much quicker in a straight line, the only reason why i dont own a deisel is i really hate the sound the engine makes, i have had a few in the past and had a very fast rover 620tdi, dyno'd at 198bhp and 397lb/ft and i caned it everywhere and still got 60mpg lol but i never grew to love it, but saying that newer deisel cars are alot quieter and the cabin sound proofing is alot better so you dont here it plus honda's new deisel is very very quiet anyway

just an idea what about a cheap 3 series bmw, deisel of course as the petrols, while being fun are horenduos on fuel, the 330d are quick standard

welcome mate, can you really get a megane 225 for around 5 grand? theres a guy who works at the same place as me and he's putting his megane 225 up for sale for 9k Shocked

if you want a quick petrol turbo motor perhaps have a look into the mk3 ibiza cupra, 180bhp and because of the interchangability of parts on vag group cars you could easily put all the s3/tt/leon cupra r BAM engine goodies on and be making well over 200 in a motor thats relatively light, i had a mk2 ibiza and that was really fun to chuck around
