Re: winter run around scooby
i love these with a passion, not as much as my fiats, but almost lol
i love the sound and the way they handle, if you think your going into a corner too fast just nail it lol it will grip and go lol and mods for them are so easy to come by lol
if you do keep it and upgrade it mate start with an FMIC as you will gain about 25bhp of that alone lol then speak to jay (as he is the one that told me) but there is something about the exhaust mani that saps power too which is what gives it the subaru barble again 30bhp tied up in that lol then go to town on it lol i love them

thats exactly right about the handling, totally opposite to the 200, it's taken a while to work it out, but it's eye opener i was'nt a fan of them but i'm now converted, lol

Re: winter run around scooby
the thing is the bottom end is knocking very slighty, which means a total rebuild, which costs to much(£1200 minimum). so i'd have to buy, for about £650, a low milage sti engine

Re: winter run around scooby
ouch mate that sucks lol i must have been lucky with mine as the engine was the sweet bit it was the rear diff was on its way out on mine (scoobs dont like doing dohnuts lol)
surely if you pull the block apart before it gets any worse you can just replace what needs replacing or is it the taking apart of the block that means you need to rebuild everything??? do you not fancy doing it yourself??

Re: winter run around scooby
aahh been looking forward to these pics nice looking scooby mate!, after market full exhausts on these are a great way to give a big bump in power and torque, once saw one tested and it gained 21bhp and 41lb/sf of torque with a full decat turbo back! and ofcourse a fmic is a great idea
so its knocking and your still going on the rollers!? lol, nice little ticking time bomb there haha. nice car mate like it
cant you just drop the sump and fit some new shells?? if its not smoking or tapping up top etc then the rings and other bits may be okay for a few years rather than spend a fortune? maybe then you could consider an STI lump at a later date?

Re: winter run around scooby
if it was a normal engine i could replace the bearings and regrind the crank no problem. but its a flat four the block splits in half to get the crank out or to replace the bearings, much easier to swop the engine over, a simple job because the engine is so short.
once the engine is warm it's only a very very slight knock (i'm very picky with engine noise's), and apparently they can run for 1000's of miles like it.
and believe me i hammer the s**t out of it, wheelspin starts and drifting, so the rollers should be ok
