PSA Parrallel duel sequential two stage turbo diesel
One of the best designs in diesel technology today is brought to you by Honywell Garrett for the PSA group (peougeot citreon and ford).
The engine that has benifitted to from this new turbo design is the PSA groups 2.2 litre HDI 16v common-rail diesel running 1800bar fuel pressure, The turbo design is called (Parrellel duel sequential two stage turbo), in English that means there is two very small turbos in parrellel, controlled and actuated by the ECU the first small turbo works upto around 2500rpm and then the second turbo is allowed to start to help out as revs build, the second high rpm turbo is pressurised at low rpm ready for the time the progressive rate valve to allow it to start boosting, this works far better than having just a big turbo and a large turbo. The benifits of this system are huge, over 30% more midrange/low down and high end torque than there regular 2.2 HDI engineand a 50% increase in third gear acceleration!
Power is boosted to 170bhp and torque is boosted to around 275lb/sf-295lb/sf depending on engine spec.
