~bites lip~
you CAN actually get a chip that will keep the immobiliser working and i can think of 2 people of the top of my head that offer them and i might be a 3rd soon i'm in the process of getting the right gear to right chips and i am going to experiment on my car first and then once i have learnt i will be offering to do them for people

Re: my new toy :D cinq 1242!!!
cool, i'd heard of chips keeping the immobilizer but I assumed people mostly went for without - I did with my 60 anyways with the Mckritch chip, then spare keys only cost £5 to cut
Out of interest why and how are you going to develop a new map on chips which are time consuming to tweak and costly since you need a dyno?
Or do you mean the tunerpro software that can be used to live-map the original ECUs?

you dont need a dyno to set up a chip on a car, all you need is the software and the chip writer and then abit of time, it is a complex thing to do but me and a friend are teaching ourselves and it can be done by writing a chip fitting it too the car then live read it while driving, the only reason a dyno is handy is cos you get a print out with where the flat spots are so it makes tweaking the paramiters abit more procise rather than "it feels abit flat at xxrpm, my car is going to see a s**t load of RR time while i learn and so is my friends as he is learning to re-map the obd2 ecu's used on 2001 onwards fiats

Re: my new toy :D cinq 1242!!!
LOL i'd like to see you make a half decent map on a chip with no dyno.
The Arse Dyno is accurate... +/- 30%.
"aye that run felt well decent, lets give it some more fuel and timing..."
"wow that felt even better, it sounds a bit pinky though"
"oh whats that... its only running on 3 cylinders now...."
I dunno about you but I dont like my pistons to have holes or cracked ring lands.
Ok im taking the piss a bit.
I assume you're gonna use a wideband and det cans, but dynos are far superior - steady state can get the fuelling bang on for each load cell which is VERY hit and miss if mapping on the road. In addition to that, your timing is only advanced to the point of peak torque - which usually happens to be well below the knock threshold. Therefore better, safer power.
People who bang on about road mapping being "better" than dyno mapping usually dont have their own dyno, you'll notice
If you're chip tuning you need to re-write a chip each time you want to make a change to the map. Load of old fashioned bollocks, just get a proper ECU, chip tuning is sh##e and will piss you off no end if you have ever experienced live-mapping.
But you can re-map the original ECUs live now, according to WOJ... but even this is gay since the ECU resets itself sometimes under load when making live changes.
Anyways sorry for going off-topic.

its all under hat for the min but if you look back a couple of posts i did say "my car is going to see a s**t load of RR time while i learn" open your eyes or read properly
i am well aware of what is involved as me and jube have done hours of reading up on this over the last few weeks and are continueing to do lots of reading up and jube has actually been programming chips for it for alot of years now

Re: my new toy :D cinq 1242!!!
from scratch a fair bit of work but its not the hardest thing in the world. copying the old VAD kits design for low boost as yours was is the cheapest simplest way. I think your car only make about 84bhp in low boost form as i remember though, mine made 96.6bhp in the same spec oddly

I think the BMW 330d will be more practical and possibly a hassle free motor and if you do need parts it'll be easier to get hold of the bits

How could i forget that that's the beauty of owning a Diesel incredible torque figures it also seems a shame though to see the Cinq go with the engine work you've done on it and it's a clean example and also there are only a few left on the road

Re: my new toy :D cinq 1242!!!
So Cinqs not running now? What sort of spec is it these days (ie is it still on GT front brakes and disc brake rears etc?) How much you after? PM if you like
Edit: probably cant afford it on second thoughts mind as only have odd pennies lying around - have you checked the timing, its very easy to do wrong, the crank pulley needs to be on the right way but fits on 3 ways, 1 way has a locking dowel pin which tells you thats on right, then the timing points on the block are a indent > up near the rocker cover iirc, and just down from the HG join is the other point

Re: my new toy :D cinq 1242!!!
If you're getting fuel and a spark it'll definately be the timing (or no compression but you'd know that if it wasnt turning over properly)
Will quickly check what pics i've got lying about - if you didnt take the crank pulley off wouldnt be what I first thought though... were the timing marks definately lined up?
