Re: my new toy :D cinq 1242!!!
id recommend it mate, i have a little experiences with friends cars running wet kits upto about a 35BHP jet and that would be ample for your car, thing is with NOS its a very sudden massive increase in torque when you flick the switch etc and this often overwhelms the clutch which on your car is about at its limit at around 110/120lb/sf ish...... at a guess (well a stock cinq or putno 60/75 one is anyway)
But its a very good way to have turbo like power for brief periods and its awsome when you flick the switch
I have a mate running a 35bhp single jet mounted before the TB on a micra 1.3 16v turbo, its makes 134bhp without nitrous and the extra 35 with and you can really really feel the power!! very impressive stuff
kits can be bought cheapish second hand and a small tank is around 25 quid to refil
Id have done it on the cinq if it wasnt for the big power it already makes

Re: my new toy :D cinq 1242!!!
i have heard that if you run it all the time you can freeze the TB open or am i wrong in that jay????
i thought NOS was really aimed at turbo cars to aid in keeping inlet temps down????

Re: my new toy :D cinq 1242!!!
nitrous was never really aimed at turbo cars for that reason (although it is a side effect) nitrous needs to be hot when entering the manifold to work at its best anyway hence the bottle warmers etc, it may well cause freezing issues left on but ive never heard of anyone using it like that due to the massive cost of refilling every few hours lol so Dan i would never recommend that anyway. And when it comes to cooling effects on urbo cars water has proven to be right at the top of the list as best heat absorbing properties, the nitrous kits get there cooling effect from petrol itself which happens to be something like 80% less effective than water, this is why water injection kits are the thing to have, alot of people think the methanol is to boost the heat absorbing but infact its there as fuel to richen the mixture up
The good point with nitrous is the extra power is there when you need it without straining the engine 24/7
The usual way the basic kits work Dan is they wire into the throttle position sensor with an adjustable start switch so when the system is armed you can set a point were you want to the nitrous to start working, most people simply go for 100% (wide open throttle) so the full power is delivered only when you are flooring it
Id consider it seriously because when setup right they are actually very safe and reliable and its a great show of point
my mate is selling his kit for 350 quid, i even considered it for the punto haha

refil's range from 20-50 quid depending on bottle size and the place you get it refilled, you can fit them yourself very easy, its actually a simple bit of kit in basic form
Brand new from the wizards of NOS you be looking at 450-550 but there are kits on for sale on ebay for less and second hand kits are always and option, like i said my mate has a 35bhp small bottle kit for sale for £250 quid (he reduced the price), you want to stick with 35hp first for a few months that way you can see how your running gear etc copes with the added power and torque ontop of the power form other mods

Basic mechanical skills needed, long as you have that then you follow a step by step guide of the net its to ling for me to go through it all but basically you fit the nitrous jet into the inlet track before the throttle body, then you'll T-piece the fuel line line and using the braided lines in the kit you connect the fuel line to the jet and the nitrous feed to the jet, bottle normally mounts in rear of car, then you wire in the adjustable switch to the throttle position sensor on the side of the throttle body itself. Then there is some light wiring such as power, earth's, relay etc etc. Its probably better to let a mechanic fit it or let someone help you in the no

Re: my new toy :D cinq 1242!!!
yes it comes with everything
You can mount the jet into any intake pipes from an induction kit etc, you dont need a BOB unless you wanted to to it that way which would be fine

Re: my new toy :D cinq 1242!!!
ok not something i really know much about but its something i would recommend you get a proffesional todo as i have seen a lightened flywheel explode at 7000rpm and it makes a F#$k%!G big mess off the engine and front of the car when it goes, performance wise it allows the engine to rev alot free'er ( pick up and shut down are alot fatser) but i have heard that pulling up hills is alittle harder, i understand why but i cant find the words to explain it lol, my mate with a 1242 8v sei has a 4.8kg iirc flywheel and he recons it does make a difference, do your research on it before you do it

Re: my new toy :D cinq 1242!!!
you need a socketed ecu mate. Any 55 or 60 ecu will do since the chip removes the immobilizer.
With regards to lightened flywheels, they do NOT lose you torque on their own. They lose you dynamic inertia, which is only useful for setting off, and sometimes gearchanges, depending on ratios. Any difference in going up hills must be down to something else entirely.
