Jaguar XJ220 (1992-1994)

Back in 1988 customers were bedazzled by promises of a hugh V12 engine coupled with a four-wheel drive when the XJ220 prototype was unveiled. Down went the deposits as (very rich) people waited for the car's arrival in 1992. The trouble was that Jaguar replaced the engine with a V6 and dumped the four-wheel drive. Some angry customers demanded their deposits back legal wranglings ensued. Add to this a world recession and Jaguar's supercar foundered. The sad fact is that on its release the XJ220 was still a fantastically fast car with supreme handling (in the dry) and then there were those striking looks.
