The Citroen DS

The car's life blood was it's high-pressure hydraulic system. There were no steel springs and the suspension gave an unworldly soft ride plus there was also the ability to adjust the ride height although the DS's party trick was it's ability to drive on three wheels ( Which allowed drivers to change a wheel without na jack ) On paper the DS did not appear especially fast but it's handling ability combined with a talent for keeping it's passengers cosseted during spirited driving made it a comfortable A to B machine. As time went by designers came up with increases in power and sophistication such as swivelling head lights whuch was never done until Citroen invented them.
On the DS's 50th anniversary Paris ground to a halt as thousands of DS's came to celebrate their Birthday there are few objects the French are more proud of than the DS and enthusiasts everywhere display a loyalty verging on obsession.
