Re: MGB V8 drag race vids
I just have to be careful not to move the steering wheel for the first second or two while she settles down.
I dont really notice the wheels off the deck to be honest. Its all a bit mad in the car off the line and I'm focused on the centre of the lane. Its ok as long as the rear tyres dont light up. If they do then it all goes wrong pretty quick. I'm doing 60 in just under 3 seconds as I shift to 2nd gear. Then then power hits again and its another 3.5 seconds to 100mph.
If I make it to the 3rd gear shift all is normally good.
Then its a case of very gentle steering corrections if she starts to drift a bit.
There have been a good few occasions where the rear tyres let go at the big end of the track due to coolant on the track. The slicks grip really hard. But one loose bit and the back end dances out. I have come close to clipping the wall at 100+ before.
Slicks dont like going sideways
I'll hopefully be back on track for shakedowns on the rebuilt engine late March in prep for the Retro Show.
Thanks
Perry

Re: MGB V8 drag race vids
Quick update!!
Following some head gasket problems I have now rebuilt the engine with some secret mods and some custom made parts. The engine is still actually stock spec apart from forged pistons and a slightly better cam.
I am trying to increase my final drive ratio with bigger rear tyres. But thats run into trouble as I need to carve out a shed load of metal to fit them in the rear arches now.
I'm also having the supercharger serviced and am working on a direct port nitrous injection system.
I have had to stop work on my car for now as my garage is being used for my Sons new project which we hope to roll out for testing at the Fast Show at Santapod on 25th March. The car wont really do much on track as we will mainly be doing cruise runs in the pits to make sure all the safety stuff is working and the water and cooling systems are ok.
The car is a shed of a MK6 Escort converted to rear wheel drive with a 4.6 litre V8 stuffed in the front and running Chevy Camaro auto transmission ??
It looks like something Frankenstien has stitch welded together

Sorry to hear bout the head gasket!, mind you sounds like its for better rather than for worse with all the new mods!! do you run a stud conversion or after market head bolts btw??

Re: MGB V8 drag race vids
Hi Jason
I've been using ARP head studs for years now. The same set of studs has been used on 6 different V8's in the MGB.
No faffing with stretch bolts for me. The ARP's are brilliant.
I'll get some pics of the Escort and bung them on here.
