Remap
Been speaking to colin at CNL remapping over the last month. Now he's safely back from Le Mans, I've booked my Sports Tractor in to be done on Saturday morning. I'll report on how it goes, vroom vroom I hope.

Re: Remap
News of the re-map. I was up in Nottingham to bring my son and all his clobber back from Uni, so I'd arranged to come back via rugby to have the work done and save me a separate 300 mile journey. We arrived, no thanks to Google maps, at Colin's place and he got straight to it. He plugged the OBD reader into the car's OBD port and downloaded the factory map. We then went in for a cuppa while he sent the data to Germany. He asked me about the mods that were on the car so that they be written into the new map. This is where it becomes a bespoke map rather than an off the peg, one size fits all that will not realise the car's potential. After an hour or so, chatting about bikes and cars, as you do, the new map came back from ze fatherland. Colin up-loaded the data into the car and then it was time for a test drive.
The computer on the car read 41.6 mpg, this was a combination of a cold engine, 50 mile journey to Rugby and some stop start urban driving around some housing estates trying to find the place. It was different as soon as it started up. The lumpy, gruff tick-over was gone, replaced by a smooth steady, unflickering idle. Straight away you sensed that it was more responsive and my foot was barely in contact with the pedal. Since changing from an ST200 to this diesel ST, I've had my hand on the gear lever far too much. Entering and exiting corners could be a bit fraught without the response of a petrol engine and the hesitation of turbo lag. It now picks up more quickly, which means I don't have to change gears so often. This will reduce wear and tear on the gear box and increase fuel efficiency. At 2,000 revs in sixth gear I was doing 72 mph, now I'm doing 76 to 77 mph. This is where it starts to pay for itself. When we got back to Colin's the computer read 44.3 mpg and by the time we got home down in Kent it was reading exactly 50 mpg. I've had better readings before the new map but they were uninterrupted journeys of 150 miles or more. I've done 23,000 miles in the 16 months I've had the car, so fuel efficiency is what I need most out of this. I'm saving over £1,255 at February 2010 petrol prices by changing to a diesel, this should improve things even more. I'll let you know how the run to work each day goes at the end of the week.
Cheers.

Re: Remap
It's great watching the computer stay at over 50 mpg going to work and back. I'm going down to the Alps in two weeks time, it's 625 miles from Calais I'm hoping that I can get there on one tankfull. I've just checked the price of diesel. in France. It's equivalent to £1.17 per litre (1.32 euros).
If anyone is interested, this is a great web site.

Re: Remap
I love the roads in france they seem less grippy, when i was there i seem to do better MPG due to this lack of friction
I rember driving of the ferry in england and onto the motorway and thinking there is somthing wrong it felt like the car had gained weight
but downside is you have to brake alot harder in france and in the rain you can only do 60mph on the motorway

Re: Remap
glad its all okay mate you may even see better MPG than that given time and driving style tweaks, like i say my dads used to average 48.8 on a 30mile trip to licoln but now he averages a good solid 54-56mpg and on longer motorway runs at 60-75mph it'll sometimes creep upto 60mpg
btw what the milage on your ST?? my dad noticed a big increase in the MPG from the engine running in properly after a year / 20,000 miles or so.
keep us updated.
Thanks
Jason

I know exactly what you mean when returning the UK. you feel like you're standing still. As for the Autoroute speeds, they're 130kph in the dry and 110 kph when it's raining or wet. That's a tad over 81 mph and a tad under 69 mph respectfully.

Hi Jason.
I can only dream of the kind of fuel returns your dad's getting, that really would be the icing on the cake. My car's just turned 67,000, that's 23,000 since I bought it 16 months ago. My run to work each day is hilly country lanes, six miles of duel carriageway and more hilly back lanes. So far, after only two days, I've managed to keep the mpg to 50.3. But the first 200 miles of that was M1, M40, M25 and A21. So not a true reflection yet of commuting and local journeys, that will come in a few weeks when I get back from the Alps.

Re: Remap
I haven't been booting it yet. I want to see what sort of mileage I can get from a tankful. After a week now, I'm getting a little bit over 50 mpg. It seems to engage the turbo at lower revs than before, so it's a bit more responsive, and as I said earlier, it's doing slightly fewer revs for the speed than before. There are a couple of things I need to talk to Colin about first, then I'll let you know what it's like with a bit of wellie.
