The Mighty Punto 60 run around!

well they say tops of 8bhp, leaving the remaining 3bhp from removing the air filter so seems to add up ey, torque seemed stock though on rollers......strange

well the reaming 3hp could be from the fact it (was as you thought well looked after) but maybe from the fact the engine has loosened up which again can gain a couple of ponies lol hmmm we shall see what its like this time around

little update here

I fitted the Nitrous to the Punto today (bar the wiring), the NOS tank is situated in the middle of the floor behind the handbrake! its perfect to reach round without effort and turn the bottle on and people can still sit as they would normally do meaning its still practical
The solenoid's for the NOS and fuel are bolted in place under the bonnet and they are attached to the NOS tank via Nylon high pressure pipes running through the bulkhead.
My task now is to sort out how the Fogger nozzle which houses the jets will enter the inlet track, one option was to simply drill a hold in the O.E plastic airbox but i really wanted the mixture to be sprayed into a more fast moving flow of air....this is why i bought the new induction kit....

But the kit is proving a little unsuitable for the job (apart from the 2" plenum which ive stolen for the cinq hehe).

So what ive done is make my own cool air induction kit

ive used the old 1.5" Vanaaken plenum of the Cinq, and using 2" piping ive situated an old Vanaaken cone filter behind the N/S headlight and the pipe route avoids running over the hot engine and manifold......
Ive done this so i can simply pop the Nitrous Fogger in the pipeline somewhere near the TB, after fitting it i took the car for a quick spin to make sure its all okay and the bloody thing is noticeably nippier the fact that that big black airbox is gone means the air coming in isnt being heated up, a soon as i put the foot down it was apparent and the induction noise has been quietened due to the addition of an airfilter and piping win win situation. Just need to see if i can make the Fogger fit in somewhere but ill post some pics up tomorrow

here is the new home built custom induction kit, ive made it to lower heat soak from the airbox ontop of the engine and it sucks cold air from behind the headlight, its also the new home the the nitrous jets

your turn now Chris nice 35/50 shot on the Punto hehe, its great fun and its strange too....if you turn of the NOS while still accelerating it just drops of and feels pants lol.

nahhh its not for me lol, i'm just going in search of perminent power lol and just think there will be a day we are driving along and you will run out of NOS and i will blow by lmao, but then you go fetch the cinq and tear my punto a new one lol

Okay, having fun and games with the Nitrous kit!!

hit my first problem today!, sent the bottle of for a refill at the Wizards Of NOS which cost me 10 quid
I then fitted it back in the car all excited to see the full 900psi optimum running pressure and the full 43bhp it would bring with it...but....the gauge still read 580psi

so ive found out that its down to temperature alone, the cold weather and bottle temps mean that even with the tank filled with 2.5lbs of NOS the pressure isnt getting high enough so im simply not getting the full power yet

I drove the car home and felt the same increase in power as the day before so i left the heater on full to attempt to get the bottle warmer, after a good wait the pressure reached 650psi....70psi more than id seen it at yet!

i picked a couple of passengers up and went for a drive, with the bottle still at 650psi i flicked the switch and bloody hell !!!!! second gear up hill with three in the car and a boot full and it flew through the revs overtaking another car climbing the hill with little effort, and third was no less impressive giving a nice strong pull comparable to my old low boost setup on the cinq after a short blast the pressure dropped below 550psi and i new this through feel alone!, i confirmed it by looking at the gauge.

Conclusion......

I NEED a bottle warmer if im to experience the proper running of the kit in winter on this small bottle, i can get one delivered for 30 quid but i wount get it till after Nobles so im going to have to heat the bottle up before it hits the rollers either on the engine or using a few hot water bottles and blankets haha....and dont laugh ive seen people hugging there bottles before quarter mile runs to give a few more PSI....it makes all the difference trust me

little update in terms of plans..........

right,......Nitrous!,......after Noble's it became clear the set up wasn't right, ive been looking into it and ive since found out that if my bottle its only going to run around 600psi on average then i need to downsize my fuel jet from the 0.022 jet to a 0.020 jet....which thankfully i have this will give me the full 43bhp shot for Noble's

im also ditching the crappy blocked up cone filter in favour of a nice new one which im going to get from JTF tomorrow (of all places to by a filter haha), and im still going to get the 1.5" plenum changed to a 2" one for future use and ease of fitment.
Im also tempted to whip the head off and fit my GSR engineering head which has been professionally ported and polished, with three angled valve seats and cut back valve stems. this way i can freshen up the top end anyway with a new head gasket and thermostat aswell as new oil seal etc......uuuw cant wait for that!!

i then really want to fit a bigger TB.....CHRIS/JUBE....any chance your man will sort me out with a 40mm one?????????? matt also wants his enlarging.

and to top it of (money dependant) i want at least a quiet cat back system on.

Why don't you get a bored TB? go up to about 46mm I think, theres a guy advertising over on FF for reasonable prices

id like to get mine bored to 40mm like the tricker TB's... any bigger on SPI and it causes a bad hesitation on quick throttle application and idle , and i believe the guy you talk of is the guy Chris and Jube told me about

jube is the one to ask and what i will do is send the 2 spi TB's i have lying around so you can send them off to him while still keeping the cars on the road

dude i would seriously look into lowering too not to mention getting thous wheels on too lol ooooo i can just piture it now lowered on the black PGT's with a just for show nos jet out of the scuttle lol mmmmm car porn

that would be great mate, we would appreciate that, 200 quid for matt, 5 quid for me right??? lol

and the wheels are going on this week mate with the spacers too hehe, ill defiantly be lowering the little bugger if some cheap springs come along

uuuw yeah forgot about that, yes please. im thinking 40mm guys??? good for handling and looks 50/50 balance

i want this car to remain what i call "an everyday car" so its still needs to be comfy and quiet and economical....all of which it is as now lol so id be keeping it on stock shocks and the exhaust will have to be nice and quiet when the time comes

the kilen sport springs we do are usually -35mm to standard, like i say i havent a clue what motors we do stock them for though

Punto is back!!

All put back to stock aswell !!, need it to get to work as the T5 is is becoming a joke for fuel big time!, it averaged 5mpg in traffic the other day over about 6 miles

So the mighty GT is back with its 45-50mpg and 15-20quid a week rather than 70-100 quid a week haha
