Re: Jordans Mk4 TDI
PUG looked awsome
i remember Ricky's when it was running about 14-`145bhp on just a map and it went really really well, loads of pull !!
good luck on the map, heard you where getting it done
thanks

Thanks would be happy to see 145bhp along as it matches the pug for power I'll be happy only difference with pug it was a stage2 remap

Re: Jordans Mk4 TDI
you'll probably find the 1.9 engine will developed slightly more torque than the PSA 1600 engine does naturally when mapped so you should be well happy with the results but then the Golf is heavy compared to the PUG.....

Re: Jordans Mk4 TDI
Yeah there is the pros and cons on weight but in the other had the golf handles brilliantly where as the pug was like a boat

Re: Jordans Mk4 TDI
yeah i think you'll enjoy it with a map on, you'll have to look into the clutch aswell as the standard one cant handle loads more power, mine was alright for about a year on the map right up until i sold it, dont know how long it will have carried on after but as said mine was probably only around 140bhp and not a massive amount of torque

Re: Jordans Mk4 TDI
i know someone else wondering the same, it looks larger so probably allows better flow, i would have thought your front mount was a complete kit mitch so came with all the ally piping and therefore didnt use the standard pancake pipe?? i cant remember when i was having a nosey at it
but yeah id be interested too, but my guess it that its simply because its larger compared with standard

Re: Jordans Mk4 TDI
as with most boost pipe modifications its the lag that gets affected the most, pipework that reduces along the path will cause a little back pressure that the turbo has to fight against but actual power is often not affected unless it a big restriction or has harsh drops in size with flat edges etc.....
people often change the lower boost pipe on the Mondeo ST tdci because it reduces to a small 1.5" for no reason, by swapping it to a larger 2" pipe the turbo finds it easier to spool up giving better low end torque and throttle response
boost pipe sizing gets talked about a hell of alot in tuning circles and there is alot of opinions on the benefits etc....
for example the diameter of the turbo's exducer is only small, often only 1.5", if you maintain this 1.5" throughout the entire system with smooth flowing mandrel bends etc then the spool up will be rapid and low end torque from the engine be be improved along with the fact that the air travelling thought the pipe itself will be flowing fast, but some where along with increasing power and airflow the line small pipe diameters will become a restriction even though they are the same as the turbo's exduser... iirc this is partly down the the increased friction of air passing very fast through a small diameter, if the pipe is then opened up the airflow slows down which reduces the friction and thus increases flow....etc etc
sorry i like stuff like this and ive felt what differences piping can make to a car with the many routes/sizes of my own boost circuit so its worth getting right
thanks

Re: Jordans Mk4 TDI
Well sorry to seem stupid but i bought all my intercooler and pipe work separate so I'm running oem pipes apart from the obvious red silicone ones so i don't think i changed that pancake pipe still unsure lol

Re: Jordans Mk4 TDI
It Just felt abit more free that's all nothing major or big and as above the old 1 just looked soo small and plastic rubbish lol got the 1.8t cheap so I thought why not.
Some quick pics I took with new alloys on (will get some better 1s soon)
New offset

Re: Jordans Mk4 TDI
Soo bad news
Drove down to r-tech for the remap yestoday ,got the car on the rollers ran the car on vag com and it decided to over boost again (sticky vains) over boosting to 20psi
So the mapper refused to map it
So the options
New turbo and remapp £700 around 160bhp max due to injectors limiting power
Recon my turbo and remap £500 and 145bhp max due to turbo limiting power
Sell up buy pd 130 170bhp with remap

Re: Jordans Mk4 TDI
sorry to hear it mate, if it where me id partly strip and clean the turbine housing/veins out or send the turbo of to midland turbo's, have it re-conned and maybe even have the turbo turned into a hybrid.
Either way a recon at Midlands is typically £180 plus VAT.
thanks
Jason

Re: Jordans Mk4 TDI
Yeah see where your coming from only thing is the I know I'll want more than 145bhp
So then that means bigger turbo parts and fittings and bigger injectors which are a Bomb And again fitting and another remap lol
So at the minute I'm pushed towards pd130 and get 170bhp with just a remap
